Reminder: Tulsa Masters Holiday Party-- Saturday, Dec 17th!
Just a quick reminder about the Tulsa Masters Christmas Party this Saturday, December 17th. Don and Nancy Nelson are our hosts. Bring a side dish and join your fellow swimmers for some dry land fun. All members should have received an invitation in the mail. If you didn't, or you've lost yours.... I've attached a flyer with all the details.
Also, don't forget to renew your USMS/TMSC membership for 2012 before December 31st.
That's all for now. See you at the pool!

TMSC annual club meeting minutes 11/19/2011
Hello, Swimmers
Attached are the minutes from the annual TMSC club meeting, held November 19, 2011 and the Jenks Aquatic Center.
Thanks to all of you who participated in the November birthday workout and to those of you who stayed for the meeting and refreshments afterwards. It was a fun day!
I also want to thank all of you for supporting Tulsa Masters this year. It is great to see so many people in the pool! I hope to hear from many of you regarding the needs we have to make 2012 another successful year. (See attached!).
Personally, thanks to all of you that I routinely come to for advice and encouragement. So many of you are willing to help when called upon and even when I don't ask. I truly appreciate you. Special thanks to Steve Lee, Dewey Smith and John Kopsky for trying to save me from myself! :) To all the newest members of the club, thanks for giving me so many fun people to swim with. You are the reason I look forward to practice every day!
Please contact me if you have any questions, suggestions, and ESPECIALLY if you can take on one of the many volunteer duties listed in the meeting minutes.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Stroke Clinic
I’d like to host a stroke clinic on Saturday, 12th November. This is FREE to Masters swimmers who have paid November dues. I will host this during the regular Saturday morning swim time (8-10am), and will focus on freestyle technique, and may touch on backstroke as well. I’ll spend the first 1 hour of the period on the clinic, after which time you can stay for additional swimming.
Since we have the use of the facility to ourselves at that time, anyone choosing to forego the clinic can do practice as usual. We’ll just separate the groups into the two pools.
See you at the pool!

November b-day workout, bagels & club meeting, Reminders!
Hello, Tulsa Masters Swimmers!
Several of your fellow Tusla Masters teammates are celebrating birthdays in November. You are invited to join Don Nelson, Dewey Smith, George Villarreal, and myself for a FUN Saturday birthday workout on November 19th, 8 am, at the Jenks pool. To further entice you, please plan to stay for refreshments after the workout. A very brief club meeting will take place then, too. See agenda & more info below.
I know there are probably more November birthday buddies out there, so let me know who you are. If you want to join in the fun, plan to contribute a short set (500 to 1000 yards) that we can all do together.
If 8 am is too early for you to swim, then come for the refreshments afterwards. We'll start munching about 9:45 or so.
As for the club meeting....
It is a requirement of USMS and Oklahoma Masters Swimming that each club hold an annual meeting. Our last official meeting was in July, 2010. I also sent out a year end newsletter in December 2010 along with the Christmas party invitations. I promise this meeting will be brief and not detract from the birthday celebration. I don't know of any 'new' business we need to attend to, unless you have something to add. I hope this will be a good opportunity for all of us to mix and mingle. With so many new members, and so many different workout groups, we rarely have a chance to all be together at once.
Please know this meeting is NOT mandatory for you to attend, but it is mandatory that we have a club meeting. I hope that in conjunction with a fun workout and FOOD, it won't be so bad! :)
Here is the agenda as of now:
I. Overview of the 2011
a. membership
b. TMSC hosted events
II. Upcoming events
a. Xmas Party
b. 2012 schedule
III. Treasurer's report
IV. Round Table
REMINDER:
November 5: Lighthouse Meet, OKC, aka, "Kathy's meet". I will definitely be going to this meet. Please let me know if you are going and you want to ride together. Meet info: http://www.okswim.org/LighthouseOKCflyer2011.pdf
Renew your USMS membership starting November 1: You'll soon receive an email from USMS encouraging you to renew your membership before the end of the year. Special sponsor discounts are offered as an incentive. Let's see if we can renew 100% of our club by December 31!
One favor to ask of the unattached swimmers: If you are a Tulsa area swimmer who registered as 'unattached' in 2011, I encourage you to select Tulsa Masters when you renew for 2012. There are many advantages for me personally, in that I can have one distribution list for all TMSC members to make sure everyone gets my very important emails! Also, a small portion of your annual fee does come back to the club to help pay for the Xmas party expenses, the occasional refreshments after workouts, etc. We do hope you will offer to help us at TMSC events, but we have no mandatory volunteer hour requirements.
Last note on USMS memberships: If you have friends who are waiting to join, tell them to sign up now. Their membership will be good for the remainder of 2011 (so they can swim at the Lighthouse meet!) and all of 2012.
As always, please contact me if you have any questions. I will apologize in advance if you receive multiple emails on this subject. I want to make sure I contact everyone.
Happy Swimming!

Jenks Pool Lockers
Masters Swimmers,
It has been decided that we will have Masters swimmers use the Competition Pool (new pool) locker room. I know several of you have had lockers for a while, and will have to get a new combo and move your things. For now, we will have access to about 12 lockers in each locker room, men’s and women’s: so far, fewer than a dozen Masters swimmers have decided to obtain a locker. I will get a list of which lockers Masters will be assigned, and then you can move your things. For now, you may start changing in and using the on-deck locker rooms.

Jenks Trojan Aquatic Center - Course Changes
Dear Masters Swimmers,
You will notice that we have changed the pool to the 25 yard dimension, which affords us the use of 19 lanes. We made the change on Monday, and it was a good day to do it. The Jenks Trojan Aquatic Center Competition Pool is a multi-use facility, shared among three competitive programs. The Jenks High School team, the Jenks Trojan Swim Club and the Masters team all use the facility, and there is significant overlap, especially during the evening swim time. Therefore, we needed to accommodate the requirements of the other two programs. We will continue to use the 25 yard courses through the Fall and Winter, though we will look to create a few long course opportunities during this time. Any conversion, however, requires lots of coordination and willing workers, so we me see few changes in the coming months.
Program Notes:
Please be sure you have your USMS registration completed. You must have your registration to participate in practices.
During ALL practices, Masters Swimmers must use the refurbished locker rooms near the 25m pool.
If you want the use of a locker, let me know, and I will furnish you with a combination.
Congratulations to everyone who competed this past weekend, in triathlons or at the Tallchief event!
Also, we will be scheduling a time this fall to have our timing system manufacturer, Daktronics, provide us with a training session. I’d like to invite Masters swimmers to volunteer at meets this year to help run our timing.
See you at the pool!

Also, the complete results from today's swim will be available later this evening on the DG Productions website. http://dgroadracing.com.

Denise,
Thanks for a great event! I really enjoyed it.
I wonder if you could pass this on to the rest of the Masters group:
Great job today Tulsa Masters! Great work, great swimming, and you should be proud of yourselves!
I want to ask if you could remember to wash out (in soapy water) any items you wore today in the lake before you use them again at the Jenks Aquatic Center. There has been research indicating that algae and mold spores can migrate from lakes to pools via swim suits and swim items. We have a great pool, and I know we want to keep it looking that way!
Again, great job today, especially to our organizers and volunteers! Thanks to everyone for showing up and representing our team!
Best,
George

Tallchief Open Water Challange 2011
Thank you so much for your entry in the Tallchief Open Water Challenge. The current forecast is for sunny skies with a high of 90 degrees. Should be perfect weather for us! It is not too late for your swimming buddies to enter. Early registration, both on line & paper entries, closes at 11:59 pm, Friday September 9th. Entries after that time will be $10 more.
Just a few reminders:
All information pertaining to the swim can be found by going to the TMSC website and clicking on the Tallchief logo. http://tulsamsc.blogspot.com
The event information includes directions to Zink Ranch, start times, etc. Please print this page for reference.
If you follow the directions, you shouldn't get lost. The biggest challenge will be avoiding the construction around downtown Tulsa to make your way to HWY 64/412 going west to Sand Springs/Stillwater. (Participants coming from OKC will not have to worry about this.)
Once on 64/412 going west, DO NOT exit until you get to 129th West Ave. There is a large, green, 'Zink Ranch' sign just before the exit. This is the exit to HWY 97 north, which will take you to Zink Ranch. Please note HWY 97 N will turn into a 2 lane road that has some twists & turns in it. Stay on the main road, do not turn off of it. Look for the event signs along the side of the road to reassure you. You will travel approx 9.7 miles north on this road.
Again, please read the directions given in the event information.
I will stress again that you need to allow plenty of time to find your way to Zink Ranch and Camp Tallchief where this swim is held. These are paved roads, but country roads, so highways speeds are not always safe. Once inside the ranch, the speed limit is pretty tame. We don't want to anger the Ranger! Enjoy the drive. It is beautiful inside the ranch.
The registration table closes at 8:30 am. You should plan to be through the main gate of the ranch no later than 8 am to allow plenty of time to check in and make your way to the start area. Swimmers may begin warming up at 8 am. No one should be in the water unless lifeguard support is present. Please listen to the officials at the start area.
Other info: the water temp should be well over 78 degrees. Wetsuits are not recommended when the water temp exceeds 78 degrees since it could cause a swimmer to over heat. If you choose to wear a wetsuit for safety reasons, please declare so at the registration table so that we may note it in the results. Swimmers wearing wetsuits are not eligible for overall awards. You may refer to the USMS Rulebook part 3 covering Open Water swim events for more information. The rule book is available on line at www.usms.org.
That should do it for now. Enjoy your swim, stay around for some fun afterwards. We will be cooking hamburgers & veggie burgers. Overall awards & a few special awards will be given during the feast. Please stick around. I will start the awards ceremony as soon as possible after the last swimmer is out of the water.
Thanks again for your entry. I know there are many choices in the arena of fitness events. I'm glad you chose the 2011 Tallchief Open Water Challenge!

Good evening swimming fans!
(Please reply to denises@webzone.net in response to this email)
Tulsa Masters Swim Club is hosting the 4th annual TALLCHIEF OPEN WATER CHALLENGE, Sunday, September 11th. Yes, we know this event conflicts with the TriTulsa event! TAT and TMSC don't want any sporting need to go unmet! :)

Just one requirement: please let me know by Friday, September 9 of your intent to do both.
To register: Please go to the Tulsa Masters website, http://tulsamsc.blogspot.com - click on the Tallchief logo, which will take you straight to the online registration form and all the pertinent information about the event. Good evening, Tulsa Masters members!
(Please reply to denises@webzone.net in response to this email)
Several things to tell you this evening. I'll do my best to keep it concise!
1)Thanks to everyone who participated, volunteered, or both at the our meet last Saturday! It was a big success. Thanks to Leslie Sauber for stellar job as meet director. Another big thanks goes to Lloyd Landreth for hosting the social at his office. We must also thank Jenks Public Schools for allowing us to swim and host events in such a fantastic facility. Meet results are posted on the Oklahoma Masters Swimming website: www.okswim.org
2) Next up: the 4th annual TALLCHIEF OPEN WATER CHALLENGE, Sunday, September 11th.
Your anxious event director (me!)needs your entry! Please go to the Tulsa Masters website, http://tulsamsc.blogspot.com - click on the Tallchief logo, which will take you straight to the online registration form and all the pertinent information about the event. We are competing for participants with the TriTulsa event the same weekend. I need your help to promote the Tallchief event. To entice the triathletes, I will offer special recognition to anyone who "doubles", i.e. does the sprint distance tri on Saturday and the Tallchief event on Sunday. Please help me spread the word to all our multisport friends.
Volunteers are needed, too! Not sure you want to do the open water swim? I need lots of volunteers for this event. Please email me if you can help. Jobs include: setting up the night before, "gate keeper", more set up the morning of the event; registration table; kayakers/canoes; finish line; food set up; clean up crew, etc. Volunteers receive an event t-shirt, and lunch afterwards, plus my never ending gratitude. Email me at denises@webzone.net
3) We have Tulsa Masters swim caps! The caps are yellow with the Tulsa Masters logo in blue. Caps are $5 (1/2 goes to pay for the caps, 1/2 to fund the Christmas party!) Contact me if you'd like a cap. If you are swimming at the Jenks pool, I'm keeping the caps there. Catch me at workout.
4) Coached workouts! There are now THREE pools in the area offering coached workouts to masters swimmers, triathletes and fitness swimmers. Donovan Ewing at Bixby HS and Charlie Haverstick at the Claremore Rec Center continue to offer their services. George Villarreal recently took on the masters group at the Jenks Aquatic Center. Email George at george.villarreal@jenksps.org for more information. We will be updating the website with this information soon.

Calling all swimmers......
Hello swimmers!!
Just one last reminder about the Tulsa Masters Swim Club's annual Oklahoma Memorial State Championship swim meet at the NEW Jenks Trojan Aquatic Center on SATURDAY, AUGUST 13th. Even if you don't think you want to swim, there are plenty of reasons to attend the meet:
#1, most important reason: SUPPORT meet director, Leslie Sauber, and all the volunteers who are working hard to make this a special event. We are getting help from the Jenks Community Education department and the Jenks Trojan Swim Club. They are very excited about supporting the masters club. We want them to see their efforts are worth it! Here is the link to the meet information: http://www.okswim.org/OKmemorialflyer2011.pdf
There is an event or two for all swimmers, regardless of experience and fitness.
#2: Meet fun, new & old swimmers! We've seen an explosion of registered masters members in the state this year. Come to see old friends. Meet new friends!
#3: Come to see, and swim in, the best pool in the region (maybe the country). You won't be disappointed! Indoor 50 meter competition pool, 8 lanes.
#4: Purchase a Tulsa Masters swim cap! Caps will be available at the meet for $5.
#5: Need some last minute swim merchandize? Joy Hancock from the Tulsa Runner will have a table set up at the meet with suits, goggles and other items for purchase.
#6: Opportunity to sign up for the 4th Tallchief Open Water Challenge event, September 11. This is also a Tulsa Masters Swim Club hosted event. Registration forms will be available at the meet. Also on line at http://tulsamsc.blogspot.com.
#7: Meet the newest masters coach in the Tulsa area. George Villarreal has been hired by Jenks Public Schools to manage the Jenks Trojan Aquatic Center and to coach the masters group swimming there. George & his wife just this week moved to Oklahoma from Kentucky. Please join us Saturday to give George a warm (bad choice of words!) welcome!
#8: FINAL REASON: Come for the awesome, catered, indoor, party after the meet at the Landreth Law Firm in Jenks, just 1/2 mile east of the pool. Eat, drink, and be merry! The annual meeting of the Oklahoma Masters Swimming officers will be held as well. Chairman Dewey Smith promises to keep it short & sweet! Right, Dewey?! :)
Any questions? Please contact me at denises@webzone.net. And don't forget to regularly check the websites www.okswim.org and http://tulsamsc.blogspot.com for updated information about masters swimming in Oklahoma.

Please read: Jenks swim schedule & other news!
Hello swimmers!!!
Just a few things to tell you. Please forgive me if this note ends up being too long!! I am out of town Wednesday July 20- Tuesday July 26. I'll have limited email access during that time. I'm getting far away from it all!!! :)
Most important: **upcoming changes in the workout schedule** JULY 25, Monday: no EVENING masters workout due to a meet using both ends of the pool. Morning group can swim as usual.
JULY 29, Friday, July 30, SATURDAY: NO MASTERS WORKOUTS at all, no am, no pm! BIG meet that weekend at the pool. Age Group Championships. Small pool will be utilized as a warm up/cool down pool.
Heads up that you will see the pool set up as 25 yards again this week through Monday July 25. After that, it should be back to 50 meters through August 20th.
Maybe more important:
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE use the 'adult' locker rooms in the mornings and evenings. We received a vague report that "someone is using the kids locker room and 'they' aren't happy about it!". I have no idea if this complaint came from the morning group or the evening group or if it was in the men's or women's locker room. Bottom line is, just use the adult locker rooms to avoid any problems. We (me or Lloyd) will tell you if if is okay to use the kids locker rooms.
The online enrollment for August is available for sign up on the JCE website, www.jenkscommunityed.com, if you want to be proactive. :) If you are new to the group, and haven't yet joined United States Masters Swimming, please do that as well, www.usms.org/reg.
Other Fun Stuff:
Tulsa Runner, 9708 Riverside Pkwy, (918)494-8800, is now carrying swim apparel and accessories. NIKE products have already arrived, and SPEEDO stuff will be available soon. Joy Hancock, TMSC member and Tulsa Runner employee, is open to suggestions as to sizes and other equipment that should be carried in the store. Thanks for the info, Joy!
**Upcoming Tulsa Masters events**
SATURDAY, AUGUST 13 ***Oklahoma Memorial State Championships at the Jenks Pool. *** This meet replaces the meet we hosted for years at McClure Park Pool. Make plans to set your swim PRs officially in our wonderful new pool. We need your participation, either as a swimmer or volunteer, or both! Even better than swimming in a fast pool, is the really fun social event that will take place AFTER the meet. Lloyd Landreth is hosting the celebration at his office, which is conveniently located less than a mile east of the pool, on 'B' Street. Join us for a cookout with all the fixin's, both edible and drinkable! :) Here is the link to the entry form: http://okswim.org/OKmemorialflyer2011.pdf.
SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 11th ***4th Annual Tallchief Open Water Challenge, Zink Ranch, Sand Springs, OK.*** This is a lake swim consisting of your choice of 1/2 mile, 1 mile, or 2 mile swims. The lake is a small private lake on the Zink Ranch property. Beautiful setting, clean water to swim in. This a great chance to test your open water skills. The first event in 2008 had 30 participants; last year we had 100 swimmers! If open water swimming isn't your thing, I can definitely use your help the day of the event. Sponsors play a big part in making this event top notch. Thanks to Swim Tulsa, Tulsa Area Triathletes, Coach-Janet, Landreth Law Firm, and Leslie Sauber for their continued support. I am still soliciting sponsorship to help cover costs. Sponsors receive one free entry to the event for every $100 donated AND their name on the t-shirt! Please contact me if you know anyone who might be interested in contributing to our event. A portion of the proceeds are donated to the Girl Scouts of Eastern Oklahoma Camp Tallchief scholarship fund as a thank you to the Girl Scouts for allowing us to use their wonderful facility for our event. Go to http://tulsamsc.blogspot.com and click on the Tallchief logo for more information about this event.
I think I've about covered it for now. Please contact me if you have any questions.
Happy Swimming!

Jenks Swim Schedule Friday 6/10 and Saturday 6/11
Hi, swimmers!
Need to let you know that there will be NO masters workout Friday EVENING 6/10. Yes, you can swim FRIDAY morning!!
There is workout Saturday morning 6/11. Norman Kahler will open the pool in my absence. Also the club team will NOT be swimming Saturday morning, so you will have the whole pool and the locker rooms on the deck to use if you want to.
Let me know if you have any questions! I'll be out of town but will try to check email periodically.
Thanks!

Swimming at Jenks next weekend, June 3 & 4
Too many emails today, SORRY!!!
Need to advise everyone that we will swim in the 'instructional pool' (the old pool) next Friday EVENING (June 3) and Saturday morning (June 4). There is a 'Alumni Reunion Meet' for former Jenks swimmers on Saturday morning in the new pool. They will be setting up the pool Friday evening, the meet is Saturday morning.
Yes, we can still swim, but we will swim in the 25m pool instead of the 50m pool. Good flip turn practice!
THANKS for reading all my emails.

Please read! Date set for TMSC summer meet AND Daktronicstrainingng.
Hello, Tulsa Masters Swim Club Members!!!!
GOOD NEWS!! We have a date for the Oklahoma Memorial Masters State Championship meet! The meet will be August 13th and the brand new, indoor, 50 meter, Jenks Trojan Aquatic Center. Tulsa Masters Swim Club is beginning a new chapter in its history of bringing quality masters swimming competition opportunities to our region.
What happens now??? We now need to IMMEDIATELY identify a meet director! Don't worry, the new meet director won't be in it alone. I will be acting as the liaison between the club and Jenks Public Schools (JPS) for the things pertaining to the facility itself. The meet director will be responsible for the 'other' stuff: obtaining the sanction, the entry form, registration, volunteers, social, etc. And as meet director, many of these things can be DELEGATED to your fellow club members! It is OUR meet, we can ALL help in some way.
PLEASE contact me immediately if you are willing to help. We need to start publicizing the event soon, so people will make plans to attend.
Next on the agenda: Daktronics training. The timing system at the new pool is Daktronics. We need a few Tulsa Masters members to be trained in using this system so we can use it at our meets, specifically for the August meet. I doubt it takes a computer 'geek' to run this system, but it will require some training. So whether you are a 'geek' or not, please email me if you are interested in learning the system so I can get training set up. Again, this is something that needs to happen sooner rather than later. It is VERY important to have electronic timing at our meets.
Bottom line: 1) We need a meet director for the August 13th meet
2) We need to have several Tulsa Masters members participate in training for the Daktronics timing system at the new pool.
PLEASE LET ME HEAR FROM YOU!!!!
Thanks!

• Ben will be there for Rise and Shine, so the doors will be unlocked UNTIL Ben leaves around 6:00 AM or shortly thereafter, so be there a few minutes BEFORE 6:00 AM
• Ben will lock the outside doors when he leaves, so anyone trying to get in after Ben leaves is out of luck unless you let them in. This will change when the Club starts swimming in the AM.
• Morning Swim is over at 7:30 AM, so please make sure all Masters swimmers are out at that time.
• No one swims alone
• You will not have to unlock or lock anything.
• Ben or Denise or I will let you know once we get keys to the remodeled locker rooms. Until then, use the new ones. Not as big an issue until school is out and the Club starts swimming in the morning.
• Do a sign-in sheet each morning and either drop them in my mailbox or fax to me or scan and email to me.
Also: Denise sent out info regarding fees/ method of payment. Try to pay ASAP so we keep everyone happy. From Denise:
If you plan to be a regular swimmer at Jenks, you need to pay! Please go to the Jenks Community Ed (JCE) website,http://jenkscommunityed.com/classes.asp?categoryid=24&categoryname=Master%20Swim. We will pay by the month. Please note that if you are over 62 yrs old AND a Jenks resident, you are eligible for an additional discount. Please read the info on the link above and call the JCE office directly.

Morning masters workouts at Jenks will now include WEDNESDAYS! That means you can swim three days/week in the mornings, 6 am to 7:30am. Lloyd Landreth is still your contact, llandreth@landrethlaw.com , for the morning swims, but Leslie Sauber will be 'in charge' on Wednesday mornings when Lloyd can't be there. Please see the information below, especially the arrival time!
Also, in case you've missed it in other emails, we are swimming FIVE nights per week (6 pm to 7:30 pm) AND Saturday mornings (8 to 10 am) at the new Jenks Pool. I'm your contact for questions regarding these workouts.
Happy Swimming!!

Add another pool to the list! Claremore Rec Center
Hello, again, swimmers!
The list of places to swim in the Tulsa area continues to grow. Please add the Claremore Rec Center to the list I sent out last night. The Claremore Rec Center is an awesome 25 yd by 25 meter indoor pool. Triathletes know it as the location of the Spring Fever Triathlon. Tulsa Masters used the pool for our spring meet for a few years before the BTW HS was completed. http://www.claremorecity.com/index.aspx?nid=226
Claremore Rec Center is offering workouts for adult swimmers, not just Masters, starting at 6:30 pm on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings for $35 per month. They will be expanding to Friday evenings in May. Tuesday & Thursday morning workouts, 6 am, will start in May as well.
The Claremore Rec Center is located at 595 Veteran’s Pkwy, Claremore, OK 74017, phone(918) 341-4516. Call Charlie Haverstick at 918-770-6204 or email him at cfhaverstick@yahoo.com for more information.

Below is a description of everything I know about the options to swim in the Tulsa area for the next few months! This information will be posted on the TMSC blog as well, http://tulsamsc.blogspot.com.
BOOKER T. WASHINGTON HS: April 25- April 29, 2011--> LAST WEEK OF WORKOUTS at BTW :(
5 to 7 pm, Monday-Friday.
MCCLURE PARK POOL, outdoor 50 m pool, 7440 E. 7th Street.

Offered by the Tulsa Parks Department. A lifeguard will be on deck for that hour. No coach, swimmers do their own thing. Swimmers will purchase a pool pass from the Parks Department. Cost: $20 for 10 swims, $55 for the entire summer, or $5 for drop in. You must purchase the swim pass at the Hicks Community Center, 3443 S. Mingo. You DO NOT have to be a masters member to swim.
HUTCHERSON YMCA, Pine & Peoria, (918) 382-9622: 'Masters Swim Class', Monday, Wednesday & Friday mornings, 5:45 to 6:45 am. Some 'coach on deck' workouts, some swimmer organized workouts. Y members pay $10 a month. Non- YMCA members are allowed for a slightly higher monthly fee. You DO NOT have to be a masters member to swim in this workout either.
ORAL ROBERTS UNIVERSITY: Members of Tulsa Area Triathletes (TAT) have the benefit of swimming Tuesday & Thursday nights, 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the in-door pool in the ORU-Kenneth H. Cooper Aerobics Center. See the TAT website for more information, http://tatok.com/swim. OR email: membership@tatok.com
JENKS TROJAN AQUATIC CENTER: 'B' Street & Birch Street, Jenks, OK, Brand new, indoor, state of the art, 50 meter x 25 yard pool. 8 lanes in the summer when the pool is configured as a 50 m pool. Please note that masters will have reserved pool time 3 x/ day, 5 days per week, and Saturday mornings WHEN WE ARE UP TO FULL SPEED. There will also be open lap swim times EVENTUALLY. The new Facility Director AND Masters Coach has not arrived yet, so we are covering the best we can until staff is in place.
Read below:
MONDAY April 25, 2011 6 - 7:30am: Morning workouts begin! We should have all 8 lanes. Please contact Lloyd Landreth if you are interested in swimming at this time, llandreth@landrethlaw.com. Lloyd will be able to cover the Monday & Friday swims, the other days depend on his travel schedule. Please stay in touch with Lloyd. Again, we should be up to 5 days a week once the new staff is in place.
SATURDAY April 30, 2011 8 to 10 am: Saturday workouts resume. We will have all 8 lanes. I will be responsible for this workout until the new staff is in place. denises@webzone.net
MONDAY MAY 2, 2011 6:00 to 7:30pm: Evening workouts begin! I will also be responsible for this workout until the new staff arrives. denises@webzone.net. We may have to share the pool for the month of May until school gets out. After that, all 8 lanes should be ours!
RISE & SHINE, 5:00 am to 6 am, Monday, Wednesday, & Friday mornings. This is an adult lap swimming session, not a masters workout. No coach, swimmers do their own thing. I'm not sure when this program will start so PLEASE contact Ben Thorman for more info before you show up before the crack of dawn!
COMING SOON: Lunch time masters workouts- 12:00pm to 1:30 pm. This will begin once staff is in place. Watch your email for more info.
We encourage all swimmers including competitive (meet) swimmers, triathletes, and fitness swimmers at the Jenks masters workouts. This is not a learn-to-swim program. Until the new coach arrives, the swimmers will be making up the workouts each day. We encourage group workouts as they are more fun, and allow you to advance your fitness goals. We will offer a mixture of freestyle sets with the other 3 competitive strokes. Don't be intimidated if you can't swim all the strokes. Freestyle is always an option. The other swimmers and the new coach can help you expand your swimming portfolio if you desire.
For the first two weeks or so at the new Jenks pool, you will not have to pay to use the pool. Come check it out, see if you like it. I will let you know when you will need to officially sign up and how to do it. Until then, all swimmers will sign a release (just once) and sign in each time they swim. I've attached the release to this email. You can print it and bring it with you, or I will have copies at the pool. This will also be posted on our blog.
Swimming is getting big time in the Tulsa area. I hope all of you will join us in the pool at one time or another. Watch for more information as I get it. Please feel free to contact me with all your questions!
Thanks!

Thanks for your participation in the 2011 April Pools Swim Meet!
Hello swimmers, volunteers, and supporters:
I wish to thank all of you for making the 2011 April Pools meet a success. BIGGEST thank you to our officials Russell Hurst and Annette Vickery, and to our computer man, Gene Vickery. Also to Coach (and swimmer) Jason Sauer for assisting in getting Tulsa Public Schools to give permission to rent the pool for the meet. The meet would not happen without these four people! Oh, one more person I should add to the list is my boyfriend, Steve Lee! I can't be a meet director if Steve isn't around to keep me in line. THANK YOU!
Next big thank you goes to everyone who responded to my request for help at the meet. Coach Jason's Booker T. Washington HS swim team cleaned the pool deck and tested the touch pads for us. Thanks to the timers and to those of you who came early to help me get things set up before the meet, and to those that stayed a little longer to help clean up. Swimmers, if someone in your support crew assisted in timing, and they aren't getting this email, please thank them for me. Events big and small require a lot of volunteers, so thank you so much for all you did to help me with this meet.
Finally, thanks to all the swimmers who participated in the meet. We had a good turnout in 35 swimmers. Of course, I always strive for more entries so I hope you will recruit your swimming buddies for future masters meets.
Allow me to give you a few tidbits about some of the swimmers:
--I'd like to recognize Ruth Atkinson, who at 74 yrs old, swam in her first masters meet. Her BTW swim group is so proud of her!
--It was fun to have former Tulsan David Zimmerman at the meet with his swim group from Missouri. Rick Wooden, I hope you will swim some individual events at the next masters meet!
--Good luck to Sean Callan who is going to USMS Nationals in Arizona at the end of the month.
--Courtney Nichols, who I've know since she was an age group swimmer for Swim Tulsa, swam today along with her husband, Casey. Leslie Ellis, another new masters swimmer, swam for Coach Courtney at Broken Arrow HS just a few years ago.
--Thanks to Thad Davis for representing Kansas at our meet! Thad is from Wichita.
--Colin & Kriss McClain's daughters, Sophia and Briana, help to time during the meet. The McClains, along with Tonya Vandermey, swim in Arkansas.
We are in the process of finalizing the results and they should be posted very soon. I will send out another email when they are ready for viewing. Any state or citizen records will be indicated on the results. I also have split sheets for each swimmer. If you swam an event over a 50 in distance, you will have a split time. I will send these out individually, so give me time to get that done.
Last, to those of you that went to eat at Spaghetti Warehouse: so sorry for the delay in getting seated. We arrived much earlier than expected and they weren't ready for us. Totally my fault in planning that one, so PLEASE don't hold it against S.W. Once we got some food in our bellies, everything was great! Live & Learn! Can someone take over the party planning next year, please! :)
Again, I very much appreciate your support of the April Pools meet. Please let me know if you have any suggestions on how to make it better. There is a very good chance that this meet will move to a new venue (brand new pool) next year. I hope to see all of you at upcoming masters events. I believe next on the schedule in our area is the Bentonville, AR meet June 11. As for Tulsa events, you can expect a long course meet in August-- no date set yet. Also, the 4th annual Tallchief Open Water Challenge will be September 11 at Zink Ranch in Sand Springs.
That's all for now. Keep Swimming!!

Swim at Booker T. Washington through the end of April
I think everyone knows that Jason won't be on deck at BTW anymore! :(
BUT Jason made arrangements with TPS/ BTW to allow us to continue to swim in the evenings through the end of April. Normal time, 5 to 7 pm, Monday through Friday.
New routine: whoever arrives first just needs to find the janitor to open the pool. They are expecting us, so it shouldn't be a problem. If you don't immediately encounter the janitor when you wander down the hall, you can go to the guards desk and they will call. We only need to make sure the door is shut when we leave. I am hardly ever there by 5pm so don't wait on me to get things open.
PLEASE do not get into the pool if no one else is there. Safety first!!
Workouts: Elissa is happy to make up workouts on the days she is there. If no one has put up a workout by the time I get to the pool, I'll do it!! :)
I have a card for Jason for everyone to sign. Some of you who were at the meet have already signed it. I'll bring it to the pool this week to get the rest of you.
I'm still waiting for official word on when the Jenks pool will be open for business. I do anticipate we will be able to swim there starting May 2. You should have your choice of workout times, not just evenings only. I'll let you know as soon as I get the details.
There will be adult lap swimming at McClure starting June 7th. This will NOT be a Tulsa Masters only workout. It will be open to the public, but will be for adults 18 & over. There will be a lifeguard on duty. You can swim Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 7:30 pm. Swimmers will be required to buy a swim pass from the Parks Department. The cost is $20 for 10 swims or $55 for the whole summer. Not a bad deal. I'll send out the details on where to buy the swim pass as soon as I get it from Rhonda.
See you at BTW. I will be there tomorrow evening (hopefully by 5 pm), Elissa will not be there.

One final reminder about April Pools meet, April 9th, BTW HS
Hello swimming friends!!
This is the last reminder (yay!) you will receive from me about the April Pools Swim Meet this coming Saturday, April 9th at Booker T. Washington HS! I hope you are making plans to swim or at least come by to volunteer for a while. It takes a full pool of people to make the meet a success. Thanks to those of you who've already entered or contacted me to say you can volunteer, and also to those that have sent their regrets for not being able to attend.
In case you STILL haven't looked at the entry form, the meet is Saturday, April 9 at Booker T. Washington HS. Warm up begins at 9 am, the meet starts at 10 am. Download the meet information from the TMSC blog, http://tulsamsc.blogspot.com. Scroll down the page & you'll see the link on the right side of the page. Or you can click on the actual entry form found on the left side of the page. I am the meet director, so be sure to contact me if you have any questions. Get your entry to me by Wednesday, April 7th to avoid the $5 late fee.
Update on the social: we will be going to the Spaghetti Warehouse this year after the meet. It is located downtown and only a couple of miles from the pool. TMSC will pay for some appetizers for everyone to share. You can order whatever you want from the menu at your expense. Please plan to join us for some post meet carbo loading.
I'm still soliciting (begging!) for volunteers the day of the meet. We must have at least 12 timers behind the blocks to start the meet on time at 10 am. There are other jobs that day that I can delegate as well. If you are bringing your support crew with you to the meet, please ask them if they'd be willing to help out. No experience necessary, we will train! I can offer community service hours to high school students. Even if they can't be there all day, I can use whatever time they do have available. The meet begins at 10 am and should be over by 2 pm.
Hope to see ALL of you, one way or another, at the meet on April 9th. As always, please contact me with your questions.
THANKS!

THANKS!

There are a couple of other events organized by masters swimmers in which you may have interest:
1)Saturday March 26th 10 am: Hutcherson YMCA Strong Kids campaign organized by Nick Irving, masters swimmer and awesome Aquatics Director at the Hutcherson YMCA, Pine & Peoria, Tulsa, OK. Help a kid get swimming lessons by participating in your favorite pool event. Choose from 100 x 50s, walking 100 loops in the lazy river, or 100 trips down the slide. Something for everyone. Please see the attached poster for details or email Nick Iriving, nirving@ymcatulsa.org. You DO NOT have to be a YMCA member or a USMS member to participate in this fundraising event.
2) Also on March 26th, 1:30 pm in Okarche, OK, the 'March in Okarche Duathlon'. Okay, so no swimming involved but Desiree Margagliano, a Tulsa Masters Swim Club member, is the race director for this Tri-OKC event. Jenks Swimming
This note is really about workouts in the month of February, and the opening of the brand new facility.
It looks like February 19th will be our LAST swim at the existing Jenks pool before the NEW Jenks Aquatic Center opens. February 19th also may be our ONLY day to swim at Jenks HS in February. Please read on....
Here's the deal:
There is a high school meet February 5th. They need the pool early, thus knocking us out of the pool. No Saturday swim on February 5th.
There is an age group meet on February 12th. We have an option to swim really early and be done by 7:15 am (say swim at 6:00 am to 7:15) OR swim in the afternoon after 2 pm. As long as there are at least 2 people who want to swim, it can be done. I will be out of town that weekend, so don't count on me. PLEASE LET ME KNOW YOUR VOTE on IF you want to swim that day, and if so, WHAT TIME DO YOU PREFER. I will notify Alice in the Community Ed office of our decision.
As I said above, our last swim, as we now know it, will be February 19th. The pool will close on February 24 for approximately 7-8 weeks. The existing pool will undergo remodeling and the finishing touches will be put on the new pool. The date of the grand opening of the entire facility hasn't been set but the expectation is around April 20th or so.
We should be back in the water, in the new pool, for our Saturday workouts, in May.
As for registration for February, I think we are only going to pay $5, regardless if we swim one day or two. If you've already paid for February, I think the Community Ed off can either refund your money or carry the balance to May. I'll let you know for sure what JCD want us to do. www.jenkscommunityed.com
Please contact me if you have any questions. Hope to see you in the morning!
