Hi everyone!
The 59TH Annual SWIM-A-ROO is Monday July 9 at the old faithful McClure Park Pool, 7440 E 7th Street.
Warm ups will start at 5:30pm and the meet is at 6pm. The meet is normally over by 9 pm. McClure is an outdoor 50m pool. Reply to me right now if you are interested in entering. See below for more info.
I NEED TO HEAR FROM YOU BY THURSDAY JUNE 28th so I can turn in the entries on Friday before I leave town!
Swimaroo is a Tulsa Park and Recreation meet for all swimmers - novice, park & rec, parents, Masters and USAS. All ages can enter, 5 to 95! This meet is hosted by our friends at SwimTulsa. Please see the link below with the complete meet details.
http://www.swimtulsa.org/EventShow.jsp?id=219737&team=osst
There are only 4 events to choose from: 50 meter fly, 50 meter back, 50 meter breast, 50 meter free. You can swim as many events as you want. Only 1 event or up to all four events if you like. The $15 entry fee includes a t-shirt. Awards are given through 8th place: Medals 1st - 3rd, and ribbons for 4th -8th. I'll provide refreshments pool side. As masters swimmers, we will swim in the 19 and over age group. We swim in a heat with only 19 and over swimmers by gender, so a female heat and a male heat in each event for each age group.
Tulsa Masters has been represented by 8 to 10 swimmers for the past few years. Some of our members have fond memories of swimming in this meet as a kid. It really is a very fun, no pressure event. If you've never entered a swim meet before, this is definitely a good meet to enter.
WHAT I NEED FROM YOU---Reply to this email with the following information:

May Dues; USA Swim Meet
Dear Masters Swimmers,
Just a friendly reminder to pay your May dues, if you haven't yet.
On another note: the Jenks Trojan Swim Club and Jenks Trojan Aquatic Center will host the First Annual Aloho Invitational meet, May 18-20th. Session times are: Friday, 18th, 4pm to approx 8pm; Satruday and Sunday, 19-20th, approximately 8am to noon and 1pm to 4:30pm. We need some timers and volunteers for these sessions: you can pick and choose your times. Additionally, we need volunteers with familiarity with the Daktronics Timing system and Hy-Tek Meet Manager.
This meet will be one of the last opportunities for swimmers to qualify for Olympic Trials, and we have a few swimmers with entry times close to those events. Additionally, the afternoon sessions will be for kids 12& Under, so you'll get a chance to see the future of OK swimming.
Thanks for all your help at Sectionals.
See you on deck!

Hello, swimming friends!
Lots to tell you, but I will try really hard to keep it short and sweet!
Tulsa Masters Swim Club and meet director Denise Freisberg ("the other Denise") wish to thank all of you who swam or volunteered at our April Pools meet April 14th. We had a great meet and a fun social at Johnny Carino's. There were several swimmers competing in their first swim meet EVER and several in their first masters meet. And it was awesome to see seven of our Arkansas friends at the meet. Results are posted on www.okswim.org under the 'results and records' tab. The state and citizen records will be updated soon.
Speaking of meets and results, Tulsa Masters members Elissa Bates, John Stroup, Sean Callan and Denise Smart competed in the South Central Zone Championship in Southlake, TX March 30- April 1st. There were 246 swimmers in the meet! You can check out the results at http://www.swimphone.com/mobile/meets/event_order.cfm?smid=3671

On a final note, the masters swimming community lost a dear friend, Steve Allen, on April 15, 2012 after a courageous battle with cancer. Steve lived in Muskogee with his lovely wife, Tommye. He registered with Tulsa Masters so that he could swim on Dennis Wilson's "chosen" relay team! Steve didn't start masters swimming until he was in his 50s. He holds Oklahoma state records in several age groups, as well as some national Top 10 times, including those relays with Dennis, Matt Powers, and Glenn Storey. Steve had a smile and a kind word for everyone he met. We will all miss him very much. Here is a link to Steve's obituary from the Muskogee Phoenix newpaper: http://muskogeephoenix.com/obituaries/x1224386055/Stephen-DeWitt-Allen
That is all for now. I hope to see all of you at one or more of the events this summer. Just remember, the meet directors put on these events for YOU! Please support them.
See you in the pool!

Denise and I (that being Denise Freisberg and Denise Smart) want to thank all of you one more time for your help at the April Pools meet on April 14th. Our meet was a success because of you. We had over 40 swimmers, which is great for Oklahoma masters meets. They enjoyed a very efficient and professional meet because of our volunteers -- YOU!

Services for Dylan Lynn
In case you haven't heard, Dylan Lynn, son of Swim Tulsa coach (and former Tulsa Masters coach), David Lynn, died Sunday March 25. Apparently it was an accident in the bathroom in which he slipped, fell, and hit his head. I don't know any more than that. Services for Dylan will be Thursday March 29, 10 am, at Floral Haven in Broken Arrow. I will be attending the service.
Please go to the Swim Tulsa website for pictures of Dylan (on the home page, www.swimtulsa.org) and a link to his Univ of Missouri bio, http://www.swimtulsa.org/NewsShow.jsp?&id=167177&team=osst.
I received an email from Corrine Dolan, the president of the Swim Tulsa parents group. She said that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to your favorite charity in Dylan's name. I'd like to make a suggestion that Tulsa Masters Swim Club make a donation to the USA Swimming Foundation for the 'SAVING LIVES THROUGH MAKE A SPLASH' program. The link below should take you to information regarding the program.
http://www.usaswimming.org/DesktopDefault.aspx?TabId=2092&Alias=Rainbow&Lang=en
I will send a donation from the club account. Please feel free to make an additional donation directly to USA Swimming if you choose. I think that will be easier than me trying to collect money.
Please pass this email to anyone else you think might want to know this news. Thanks for your time.

THANK YOU!
To all Masters Swimmers:
Thank you so much for supporting us during the Sectional Championship! So many of you came out to volunteer during the meet, which ran so well. We got so many compliments about how warm and welcoming our volunteers were. Because the masters swimmers made up such a big proportion of the "crew," the success of the meet is due in large part to your efforts!
Thank you again for everything!

GET YOUR FEET WET!!
Hello swimming friends!
I'm sending one more plea to ask for your help at the Speedo USA Swimming Region VIII Sectional Championship this coming weekend, March 1- March 4th at the Jenks Trojan Aquatic Center. MANY volunteer slots are still available every day of the meet. YOUR help is needed to make this meet great. 2012 is an Olympic year. This meet will feature swimmers who've already qualified for the Olympic Trials or who may qualify during this event. You might witness a potential TEAM USA medal winner at the London Olympics swimming in OUR pool in OUR town! At last report, there are over 600 swimmers entered in this meet. THIS IS A BIG DEAL!!!
Please think about all the things you do in life that require volunteers to make a great experience. I'm not just talking about sporting events. Whether you are a organizer, participant or beneficiary of these events, you know that volunteers make the event. Many unpaid volunteers who have "other lives" are already putting their heart and souls into making this a great experience for these swimmers. Let's show our appreciation by filling the open slots.
Even if you are not swimming at the Jenks pool, please consider volunteering your time. Tulsa Masters and USMS have already benefitted from (and will continue to do so) the support of Jenks Public Schools, Jenks Community Education and Jenks Trojan Swim Club. Getting involved in this meet is a great way say THANKS.
It is easy to sign up for an open slot. An on line 'job signup' sheet is available. Many openings are still available. Some jobs require knowledge of competitive swimming, some do not. There is a brief description of each job on the sign up sheet. Most of the slots require a 4 hr commitment; a few less than that. Your significant other can help, too. Scroll through the list to see the available positions, the time slot, and the names of those who've already made a commitment (thank you!).
To sign up, go to:
http://www.jenksswimclub.com/Home.jsp?team=osjtsc
click on 'meets/events' on the right of the screen click on the 'job signup' button under the 'Mar 1 ~ 4, 2012 - Region VIII Sectional Championships' listing.
Sign in: for the email address use: jenksswimms@gmail.com for the password use: jtscvolunteer Scroll down through the list of openings. Click on the box next to the slot you are willing to fill.
Click on the sign up button.
A box will pop up asking for contact information. Please put your name and a phone #/email address here.
You are done. THANKS very much.
If you have specific questions, you can contact me or George Villarreal, george.villarreal@jenksps.org.
Please don't wait, sign up now! The meet starts Thursday, March 1st! Take some stress of the event directors and FILL THOSE SLOTS! You'll enjoy the experience.
Thank you for your time!

CALLING ALL SWIMMERS: On Deck and In the pool!
CALLING ALL SWIMMERS: On Deck and In the pool!
Hello fellow swimming friends!
Your time and participation is requested for several up coming swimming events. Please see below for information about these events and what YOU can do to be involved and/ or participate. (sorry for another long email!)
FIRST Request: VOLUNTEER
MANY volunteers are still needed for the Speedo Region VIII Sectional Championships hosted by Jenks Public School District and the Jenks Trojan Swim Club, March 1- 4. This is the most prestigious event yet to be held at the new Jenks Trojan Aquatic Center. For more information on the event itself, go to:
http://www.jenksswimclub.com/EventShow.jsp?returnPage=%2FEventsCurrent.jsp&id=178519&team=osjtsc
Thanks to all of you who've already committed your personal time to help at this event. There are still MANY slots to fill! Please consider volunteering for even just one slot during this four day weekend. This is not just a "Jenks thing". This is a swimming "community" thing. JPS and JTSC are very supportive of masters swimming. Masters swimmers have the opportunity to work out in the best pool in the country; we have the opportunity to host masters meets, INCLUDING the 2013 Zone Meet, in the best pool in the country; and members of JTSC have offered to assist at our events. Let's continue to work together to promote swimming for ALL ages.
An on line 'job signup' sheet is available. There are many openings available. Some jobs require knowledge of competitive swimming, some do not. There is a brief description of each job on the sign up sheet. Examples of open positions include: timers, runners, safety marshals, hospitality room, awards, concessions, console operator assistant. You can scroll through the list and see who else has signed up. You can also enlist the help of your significant other/family members. The time commitment varies depending on the position. You can sign up for a position that fits your schedule. I promise, you will enjoy this experience. Please get involved!
To sign up, go to:

SECOND request: SWIM at the Rose State Meet The Rose State Masters Meet is next Saturday FEBRUARY 25 in Midwest City. This is always a fun meet and several Tulsa swimmers are planning to go. Please support the meet director, Janet Latham. It takes time and effort for our volunteer meet directors to provide opportunities for us to test our swimming skills. Let's show our appreciation by attending this meet.
FYI--- For those of you who like to set records: this is the only short course meters meet in Oklahoma. A great chance to get your name in the record books! Here is the link to the meet info:
http://okmsc.org/SwimEvents/RoseState/RSMeet.html
If you want to carpool to the meet, plan to meet at the Jenks Aquatic Center parking lot on Saturday at 9:30 am. Warm up is 11:30 am and the meet begins at 12:30.
THIRD request: SWIM at the USMS South Central Zone Championship Meet, Southlake, Texas (near Dallas) March 30- April 1st.
The South Central Zone consists of USMS swimmers in Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. A Zone Championship meet is held two times per year: the spring meet is short course yards, the summer meet is long course meters.
Mark your calendar and plan your training for this meet. It's been awhile since Oklahoma had any significant participation in the Zone meet. Dallas is an easy drive; we don't have many excuses NOT to attend. Plus, Tulsa Masters will host the 2013 Long Course Zone meet at the new Jenks pool. We need to get the word out about our fabulously fast pool so all those Texans will want to come to our meet.
Here is the link to the meet information:
https://www.damswim.com/files/2012_zone_masters_entry.pdf
LAST, but not LEAST:: APRIL POOLS, April 14th at the Jenks Trojan Aquatic Center, hosted by Tulsa Masters Swim Club.
Please go to www.okswim.org to find the entry form.
I hope all of you will make time to participate in OUR meet. Denise Freisberg is our first time meet director. Let's show our thanks to her for taking on this job by swimming or volunteering in the meet.
Baby update: Masters swimmer Jocelyn Wood and her husband, Keith, are the proud parents of twin girls, born Feb 10th. Masters swimmers Courtney (McGill) and Casey Nichols also had a baby girl about the same time as Jocelyn. Just one more girl and they'll have a relay team! Congrats to all of you!
That is all for tonight. Have a great week. Sign up for the sectional meet; shoot me an email if you want to go to the meet this weekend. I'll be bugging you about it if I see you at the pool. :)
Keep Swimming!

TMSC 2012 New Year Update
Hi Swimmers!
It is the end of January and it feels like March. My sinuses are telling me the same. We are going to regret the prayers for a mild winter!
It's time for a new year update. (yes, Steve Johnson, this will be a very long email!) I know you've missed getting emails from me!! I want to welcome all the new members and also thank those of you who renewed your memberships for 2012. Tulsa Masters does benefit from your USMS membership. A percentage of the total USMS membership fee funnels through Oklahoma Masters Swimming and then to Tulsa Masters Swim Club. These funds will go toward club activities. We anticipate receiving approximately $900 "profit sharing" from the 2011 memberships. It's not all about the money, though. I'm just happy to have a so many people to workout with on a daily basis! You can see the list of all registered Oklahoma swimmers at https://www.ClubAssistant.com/club/usms_members.cfm?l=27.
If for some reason, you haven't renewed for 2012, please do it NOW. www.usms.org/reg. Remember, for those swimming at Jenks, you are REQUIRED to be a USMS member to participate in the designated masters workouts.
For those of you new to the club, please regularly check the TMSC website, http://tulsamsc.blogspot.com and also the Oklahoma Masters Swimming website, www.okswim.org for updates to the calendar, news, etc. We do our best to keep this as up to date as possible. Almost all of the emails I send will be posted to the club website.
FUN STUFF: Congrats to 7 Tulsa Masters members who completed the impromptu One Hour swim at the Jenks pool on Saturday, Jan. 28: Stephen Louy, Jon Dees, George Villarreal, Joe Ballinger, Bruce Dart, Norman Kahler and Denise Smart. Sorry, I don't know how far everyone swam. I do know George did somewhere around 4800. He bragged that he lapped Jon Dees 8 times. Show off! :)
Also congrats to the Tulsa Masters members who competed in the the ORU Indoor Triathlon on Saturday, Jan 28: Mona Canaday (1st 55-59); Amy Fahrlander (1st 35-39); Elissa Bates (4th overall and 1st 20-24); Denise Smart (1st overall female); Colin Drysdale(6th 35-39); Alejandro Torres(1st 40-44); Robert Broaddus(1st 50-54); Matt Bowler(3rd overall,1st 35-39); Alan Ball(2nd overall,2nd 25-29). Brian McKinney did the race with his daughter, Gracie. I think she is 11 yrs old and she was 2nd in the 8-14 age group. This was Gracie's first triathlon. Good job everyone! Please forgive me if I missed anyone in the results.
MEDICAL MOMENTS: I want to acknowledge some of our members who are recovering from surgeries, going through treatment, and anxiously ready to give birth! Please keep our teammates and their families in your thoughts as they go through life's joys and tribulations: Steve Allen, Don Nelson, Betsy Beddow, Jon Billings, Denny Saunders and Jocelyn Wood. I know Jon has already returned to the pool, and Betsy hopes to in the very near future. Jocelyn is holding onto twin girls, but it sounds like she is ready to let them go whenever they decide it's time. Best wishes to all of you!

TMSC 2011 FINANCIAL REPORT
The club's financial report is available for your viewing pleasure on the TMSC website: http://tulsamsc.blogspot.com/2012/01/tmsc-2011-financial-report.html
Click on it to make it readable.
Just a note of explanation-
The club account had a loss of $883 in 2011. This entire amount can be attributed to the Tallchief Open Water Challenge event:
1) We incorporated chip timing to add quality and efficiency to our event.
2) Event income was affected by the loss of approximately 20 participants over 2010.
3) Swim Tulsa did not co-sponsor the event, so TMSC picked up the full share of expenses.
I once again need to acknowledge the financial sponsors of the 2011 Tallcheif event: Landreth Law Firm, Leslie Sauber, coach-Janet.com, JW Designs, and Tulsa Area Triathletes. We would not be able to put on this unique event without their assistance.
The 5th Annual Tallchief event is September 9, 2012. The event will be dual sanctioned with USA Triathlon (USAT) and United States Masters Swimming (USMS). We hope this will increase participation. I do intend to use the chip timing system again.
UPCOMING MASTERS EVENTS:
Please continue to check the Oklahoma Masters Swimming website, www.okswim.org, for updates to the calendar. Colin Drysdale, the web master, will update the dates, links to entry forms, etc, as he gets the information. Also watch for emails from our registrar, Loida Delgado, caribena57@hotmail.com, with information about the meets. The email subject line usually reads something like "Oklahoma" or "Oklahoma news". Loida sends out information to all Oklahoma masters swimmers upon request.

Sectional Championship Volunteers
Dear Masters Swimmers,
Our March 1-4 Sectional Championship is approaching fast! National-level and some international-level swimmers will be setting records and qualifying for Olympic Trials in our pool! I've sent out requests for volunteers, and now we've set up a more detailed registration/information process. Please use the directions below to register, view assignment descriptions, and sign up for your opportunity.
I've asked for the help from EACH of you for as many duties/opportunities you can offer. Since we will be missing swimming all day Thursday-Saturday, why not plan to donate your time during the sessions you'd have normally come to swim? Considering all you've gained from swimming here, why not give back to the Jenks Trojan Aquatic Center?
If the directions below aren't clear, let me know, and I will send you the original document (I cut-and-pasted this).
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR ALL YOUR HELP!

Masters: Speedo Sectionals Volunteering
Dear Masters Swimmers:
In the Fall, I sent a note asking that you mark your calendars so that you can volunteer during our Speedo Sectional meet here, March 1-4. Please consider giving back to the District and the Aquatic Center, and, considering that we are going to miss practices the second half of that week, you might consider coming here to volunteer during that period.
I attached some of the responsibility areas, but I will need specific help in the areas "nearest the pool," ie, areas where experienced swimmers know how to handle things. SPECIFICALLY: I need members to help who are familiar with timing systems and with Hy-Tek (I can train you during HS meets in the next month). Please do help, take off work, and get FREE MEALS and tee-shirts during the times you volunteer. I also may need concessions volunteers.
Please send me back areas you would be interested in helping, and what dates and times. March 1: 5:00pm to 9:00pm. March 2-4: 8am to 1:00pm and 5pm to 9pm.
