Hello, swimming friends!
Lots to tell you, but I will try really hard to keep it short and sweet!
Tulsa Masters Swim Club and meet director Denise Freisberg ("the other Denise") wish to thank all of you who swam or volunteered at our April Pools meet April 14th. We had a great meet and a fun social at Johnny Carino's. There were several swimmers competing in their first swim meet EVER and several in their first masters meet. And it was awesome to see seven of our Arkansas friends at the meet. Results are posted on www.okswim.org under the 'results and records' tab. The state and citizen records will be updated soon.
Speaking of meets and results, Tulsa Masters members Elissa Bates, John Stroup, Sean Callan and Denise Smart competed in the South Central Zone Championship in Southlake, TX March 30- April 1st. There were 246 swimmers in the meet! You can check out the results at http://www.swimphone.com/mobile/meets/event_order.cfm?smid=3671
Best wishes to Elissa Bates and Sean Callahan at USMS Spring Nationals this coming weekend, April 26- 29 in Greensboro, North Carolina. Swim fast!

On a final note, the masters swimming community lost a dear friend, Steve Allen, on April 15, 2012 after a courageous battle with cancer. Steve lived in Muskogee with his lovely wife, Tommye. He registered with Tulsa Masters so that he could swim on Dennis Wilson's "chosen" relay team! Steve didn't start masters swimming until he was in his 50s. He holds Oklahoma state records in several age groups, as well as some national Top 10 times, including those relays with Dennis, Matt Powers, and Glenn Storey. Steve had a smile and a kind word for everyone he met. We will all miss him very much. Here is a link to Steve's obituary from the Muskogee Phoenix newpaper: http://muskogeephoenix.com/obituaries/x1224386055/Stephen-DeWitt-Allen
That is all for now. I hope to see all of you at one or more of the events this summer. Just remember, the meet directors put on these events for YOU! Please support them.
See you in the pool!

THANK YOU for your help at the Tulsa Masters April Pools meet!
Denise and I (that being Denise Freisberg and Denise Smart) want to thank all of you one more time for your help at the April Pools meet on April 14th. Our meet was a success because of you. We had over 40 swimmers, which is great for Oklahoma masters meets. They enjoyed a very efficient and professional meet because of our volunteers -- YOU!
Thank you, again. We appreciate you very much.

April Pools Results
The results of the meet this past weekend can be found here: http://okswim.org/aprilpoolsresults2012.pdf
I wasn’t exactly sure what to do about the relays, so I can change those to reflect the correct age groups so that they can get on the national list.
Great meet! Thanks!

Meets, Practices
The Parks and Recreation meet, the youth meet, is on Tuesday, not tonight, as I originally had said. So, parking tonight will be wide open, but tight on Tuesday afternoon.
Also, with the April Pools Masters Meet on Saturday, normal Saturday morning practice time has been cancelled (8am practice). Warm-up for the Masters meet will be available that morning.
Thanks!
George

April Pools hosted by Tulsa Masters Swim Club is SATURDAY, APRIL 14th, at the Jenks Trojan Aquatic Club! That's little more than one week away!
Two things make for a great event:
1) PARTICIPANTS! We need your entry. You still have time to enter. Deck entries will be accepted the day of the meet, but pre-entries are encouraged.
2) VOLUNTEERS! Not sure you are ready to swim in a meet, never seen a masters meet, recovering from aches and pains, or just feel the need to do a good deed? We can use your help on SATURDAY APRIL 14th! We mainly need timers and we will train you.
Warm up is at 9 am, meet starts at 10 am. Our meets generally run about 4 hours in length, depending on the number of swimmers. There will be refreshments at the pool. Afterwards, please join us at Johnny Carinos, 9718 Riverside Parkway, to unwind and replenish.
