Jenks Swimming
This note is really about workouts in the month of February, and the opening of the brand new facility.
It looks like February 19th will be our LAST swim at the existing Jenks pool before the NEW Jenks Aquatic Center opens. February 19th also may be our ONLY day to swim at Jenks HS in February. Please read on....
Here's the deal:
There is a high school meet February 5th. They need the pool early, thus knocking us out of the pool. No Saturday swim on February 5th.
There is an age group meet on February 12th. We have an option to swim really early and be done by 7:15 am (say swim at 6:00 am to 7:15) OR swim in the afternoon after 2 pm. As long as there are at least 2 people who want to swim, it can be done. I will be out of town that weekend, so don't count on me. PLEASE LET ME KNOW YOUR VOTE on IF you want to swim that day, and if so, WHAT TIME DO YOU PREFER. I will notify Alice in the Community Ed office of our decision.
As I said above, our last swim, as we now know it, will be February 19th. The pool will close on February 24 for approximately 7-8 weeks. The existing pool will undergo remodeling and the finishing touches will be put on the new pool. The date of the grand opening of the entire facility hasn't been set but the expectation is around April 20th or so.
We should be back in the water, in the new pool, for our Saturday workouts, in May.
As for registration for February, I think we are only going to pay $5, regardless if we swim one day or two. If you've already paid for February, I think the Community Ed off can either refund your money or carry the balance to May. I'll let you know for sure what JCD want us to do. www.jenkscommunityed.com
Please contact me if you have any questions. Hope to see you in the morning!

Postal Swim - This Saturday!
WE ARE ON for the one hour postal swim on January 22 at Jenks. PLEASE NOTE we will start at 7 am sharp as there is a High School meet at the pool later that morning. We need to be finished by 9 am and out of their way.
For more info on the postal swim, go to http://www.usms.org/longdist/ldnats11/#postals and scroll down to "2011 Postal Swims". Do this event for fun, just to see how far you can swim in an hour. You don't have to officially enter the competition, but you can still participate. We will have 2 heats & take turns counting for each other, so be prepared to stay the full 2 hrs so that everyone who wants to swim gets to swim. If you have a loved one who wants to count for you, great, bring him/her with you. Depending on the number of swimmers we have, we may be able to leave one lane open for those who just absolutely refuse to play! :)
Any masters swimmer is welcome to participate in this fun event. If you haven't joined/renewed your membership for 2011, go to www.usms.org.reg to quickly register. If you are not a regular Saturday swimmer at Jenks HS, there will be a $5 drop in fee that will go to the Jenks Community Ed Department. I will collect that fee Saturday morning & turn it in. If you'd like to join us on a regular basis for the Saturday workouts, please register at https://jenkscommunityed.com/index.asp --> Masters Swim to register. If you have any problems enrolling on line, please call the office, 299-4415.
Contact me with any questions. Hope to see a bunch of you at Jenks HS Saturday morning. First heat goes at 7 am. It will be fun, I promise. How about breakfast afterward??
Thanks to the Jenks Community Ed Department, Alice Bowling, for working out a compromise with Coach Turner to allow us to swim Saturday morning.

Hutcherson Pool Closure
The Hutcherson pool will be closed until Thursday. An issue with the heater has caused pool temperatures to dip below an acceptable level. The repair company has been in and ordered the necessary part which will arrive on Wednesday afternoon. We plan to be fully operational on Thursday morning at 5:30 a.m.
The Owasso and Thornton pools remain open for members of the Y.
Please contact Nicholas Irving at the Hutcherson Y with questions.
Thank you,

Saturday Jenks Swimming
Hello, TMSC members!!
Enrollment is now available for our Saturday swim workouts at Jenks High School for the months of January & February. Please go to https://jenkscommunityed.com/index.asp --> Masters Swim to register. If you have any problems enrolling on line, please call the office, 299-4415.
Please note that registration is also available on the site for March, April & May. I suggest that you only enroll in January & February. We anticipate the existing HS pool to close at the end of February for some remodeling before the entire, new, aquatic center complex opens. The exact date of the grand opening is yet to be set. I'm almost positive we won't get to swim there in March, and maybe not April either. I'll keep you posted!
I do know that we won't be able to swim on Saturday, February 12 as there is an kids meet at the pool that weekend.
In the meantime, join us for fun group workouts on Saturdays in January & February. The workouts are friendly to all swimming levels, and freestyle is an accepted substitute if you aren't skilled at the other strokes. We have the pool from 8 to 10 am, but we are usually out of the water by 9:30 or so, just depends on the group & how soon we get going. We occasionally go out to breakfast afterwards for some dry land training!
Also mark your calendar for the one hour postal swim on January 22 at Jenks. For more info on the postal swim, go to http://www.usms.org/longdist/ldnats11/#postals and scroll down to "2011 Postal Swims". Do this event for fun, just to see how far you can swim in an hour. AGAIN....You MUST sign up through the Jenks Community Ed Department to swim on Saturdays and you MUST be a current 2011 USMS member. (go to http://www.usms.org/reg to renew) If you only want to come on Jan 22nd for the postal swim, I will collect $5 from you to cover your swim fee for that one day only.
Hope to see YOU in the pool at Jenks HS!

Thank You
Fellow Swimmers:
Thank you to those of you that took hats and gloves to the Christmas party. That was very generous of you. I delivered the items to the the schools with the most homeless; Rogers HS, Roosevelt and Remington Elementary. I am sure the kids will really use them this coming week since is going to be very cold. I appreciate your generosity. Thanks again and keep swimming.
